DataNet

DataNet is a full-featured technical web development environment designed for timely and efficient delivery of technical information, including drawings, illustrations, and databases.

...Imagine sharing your latest equipment design with your manufacturing center on the opposite coast, everyone viewing the latest drawing simultaneously and modifying the drawing while you discuss possible changes. Imagine being able to share those modifications instantly with your manufacturing center.

...Imagine posting the latest plant layout on your corporate network for commenting by each department with every drawing availabe on a web page while a database runs in the background, collecting and analyzing comments as they arrive.

...Imagine controlling equipment on the factory floor in Thailand from a web page on your desktop, updated as quickly as your sensor can obtain the information.

With DataNet, you can do all this and more.

Features and Benefits of the OCS Systems DATANETTM web service:

  • Easy on the eyes. DATANET web pages are easy to read, not fuzzy or blurry.
  • Vector graphics. DATANET web pages use vector graphics, not raster. This provides additional features such as:
    • Faster download and access times. Vector files are several times smaller than a comparable GIF, JPG, or Adobe Acrobat file.
    • Ability to actively zoom and pan within the image.
    • Capable of turning items within a drawing on and off. For example, if a user wanted to see only the cubicles on an office layout, all of the desks, chairs, lights, etc. could be removed from the illustration. Then the desks, chairs, etc. could each be turned back on later. Then the other wells could be turned back on later.
    • Changes in viewing the drawing, (zooming, turning features on or off, etc.,) do not require reloading the image.
    • Location of points within an illustration can be determined. If the latitude and longitude of a particular location were desired, they could be displayed by right clicking on the drawing and choosing Location from the menu that appears. This also allows the user to determine distances.
    • Image quality does not deteriorate when panning or zooming.
    • Drawings can include active links. For example, a link can be placed within drawing at a monitoring well that, when clicked, will access a database of monitoring data and display it in a separate frame on the same page as the drawing.
  • Full linking of all table of contents, figures, indexes.
  • Active text searching within documents.

Additional features that can be incorporated if desired include printing the file so that it prints exactly as the original report, downloading of the document, downloading of the drawings, and linking of tables and drawings to actively changing databases of information.

DataNet also provides the ability to control devices across the web, Intranet, or a network, using active controls within a drawing to control a device.

DataNet is offered as a service. Watch for our offering as a software product that will allow you to develop your own web pages with the same features. Available in May, 98.
